Blessings in Disguise - Stitches in the open

Hey all, it's thursday afternoon here in the D-Land. I am at home watching TV, relaxing. Jen is working, helping her coach move stuff for his work. We were both helping out yesterday when I tried to do my best Tom Haubrich and tear my achilles heal. Thankfully, a few years back I broke my left foot and when and I did, I also tore up my ankle and in turn while my foot was in a cast I could not exercise the ankle and since than I have had a couple of extra layers of scar tissue and skin. For those of you who know me well, you know that my left achilles is about twice the size of my right, a fact that I have hated since it happened. God works in mysterious ways, at the time of my broken foot it was one of the worst times in my life, it caused me to gain 30 pounds, lose precious inches on my vertical (we all know white guys can't jump) and leave Binghamton and DI basketball forever. However, that extra scar tissue and swelling and whatever else is in their single handedly saved my handball career and Jen and I's stay in Germany.

We moved 156 of these box things yesterday, each weigh over 100 pounds and they are awkward. They are over 7 feet tall and they are used to hold DVD's, or magazines, or whatever else a store might be selling. Now, on the top of these things is a storage box that is supposed to be attached by screws, one of them wasn't. We had successfully moved 5/6 of the 3 double trailer semi's full of these boxes into storage and had only 20 left when the top came tumbling down off of one and struck my achilles heal, 50 plus pounds of wood at an angle dug into my achilles and left what I can only call a gauge in the back of my leg. It is about an inch and a half long and a little less than a half-inch deep. It bled for awhile, ruined one of my limited pairs of shoes and hurt more than little but we were 2 hours from home, in Switzerland and the job had to be finished so we taped it up and finished the job. When we got back to Grenzach, we had to go straight to practice, everybody thought it best that I go to the hospital but our insurance has not kicked in yet so we had to wait till today. The doctor today kinda freaked on me cuz when he opened the cut he could see my achilles, he immediately sent me to the hospital where, thank God, the surgeon had lived and studied in Virginia and could speak perfect English. She administered a local anesthetic, cut away some skin and put 6 big stitches in it. So, I am no worse for wear and can get back to playing handball on Monday.

Sorry that was so long. Jen has a scrimmage tonight at 6, she is excited about it, I just hope she has enough energy to play well after working two 10 hour days of manual labor in a row. I hope all is well with everybody back home.

To my parents and whomever, we are usually (if the internet works and we are not too tired) on AIM around 1030-11 our time, or 4 Central. That is the best time to try and get on and chat with us, I know this is not a good time for you but thats the best we can do. You can also comment on hear or send me an email. The internet doesn't always work and is slow so, that, surprise surprise, Jen and I lose patience with it sometimes and get frustrated.

I have to apply for jobs and such so until next time, much love.

  2. Hey Jordan - hope you heal quickly and so thankful it wasn't worse. Alltel keeps calling for you at home and it's a recorded message telling us 'this is not a marketing call". The number they leave is 800/672-2051 and to call right away. Any ideas what that's about? They won't talk to us since we aren't you. Praying for you. good luck, Jen.

  3. i fancy myself technology savvy but this blog had me on tilt for awhile. Think I got it down but i really want my picture up there with the other followers....

Good to hear that you achilles flab came in handy, can't imagine what it is going to look like after this ordeal. You're going to have to wear timber boots the rest of your life. Good to know you made it though.

Whats the television like? bad experiences, good experiences, no experience?

Have you got a feel for how Americans are percieved? I think we are getting a bad rap over there.

Final Question: Are people as obsessed with the failing economy and who are they blaming that on?

Look forward to this blogging experience I as start my GA again monitoring this lively comp lab. Good to hear spirits are up and I pray they remain there as I am sure they will.

    Keep it real homeys. paintrain

  4. Paintrain - I would put you in the tech savvy group as well, and i would like to see your pic up as well. We waited a day to get the stitches so im thinking the scar is gonna be pretty diesel, pretty excited about it.

The TV, very little censorship and we have seen every rock of love, charm school, hogan wrestling, brooke knows best and double shot of love episodes ever produced. CNN is pretty bad, being that Jen and I are not real political and we are staunch republicans.

Americans get a mixed review, everybody loves Obama and we don't as much so we just ignore them when they ask about Obama. But overall, mostly negative. We don't learn any other language in school, we dominated WWI and II, we are stubborn but not blunt or openly honest( most of us anyway). And we don't know how to play handball so that doesn't help. Our german speaking only neighbor basically hates us but whatever.

They are very obsessed with the economy, especially in Germany, considering they pay over 40% in taxes no matter the income and Germany's economy is one of the worst in the world at present time. I do believe they blame themselves though, they all think it is still gonna get worse before it gets better and are very skeptic of the current rebound.

Anyway, glad your on, im sure you will have a little bit of time in the comp lab and i hope we can make that pass a little faster some days.
