it is tuesday afternoon here in Germany, it's raining and gloomy but it cooled everything down so that's a plus. Jen and I joined some of her teammates for lunch today, they made crepes, which I doused with Nutella (SO GOOD), and banana milk and ice cream shakes, also quite phenomenal.
Big news from last night, I have found a team to play for. My professional sports career is starting. I feel like a low down lawyer in a big firm however, cuz I will do all my work pro bono. Regardless, it is a big weight lifted from our shoulders. The coach really liked me, we think (translation problems), and has offered to work with me extra before and after practice. This is great news because I need all the extra work I can get and because this coach has a track record of personally training future handball stars, which means he is good at what he does. He has trained at least 5 guys who currently play in the top league in Germany, thats like one coach personally training 5 guys who now play in the NBA. The team is ESV Weil and is located like 10 kilometers from Grenzach in a town called Weil am Rhein. The proximity to where we live is a good thing because it makes it easy for me to get to and from practice. The team is in the 4th Division which is a good level for me to learn and train at.
This past weekend Jen had two training games, one friday night and one saturday night. The team played well, they won on friday, lost on saturday but they played the top team in Switzerland and they are still missing multiple girls. They also had two training sessions before the game so they were a little pooped. Sunday brought another training session in the morning, followed by a little relaxation in the afternoon. The team floated for about an hour down the Rhein river in Basel and than went to an adult water park, if you will. It had hot and cold tubs, hot and cold raining/mist rooms, 3 sauna's, all with a different "flavor," an indoor and outdoor pool, the outdoor had a mini lazy river, bubble beds, and streaming falls. The girls were able to relax and recuperate a little bit. We than went to a nice restaurant on the Rhein and ate some dinner with the team. Sunday was a good day.
Yesterday, during the day, we went grocery shopping and visited the Doctor so I could get my stitches out. The Doctor said everything looked good and said not to swim for a couple of days. He also said not to do anything athletic for a few days but that was not possible. Everything went smoothly last night though, the cut did not open back up or bleed and my ankle felt fine so I think we are all good.
I am getting ready to drive to practice in Weil and Jen has to get ready for training down at the sporthalle in Grenzach. Hope all is well with everybody back home. I miss NASCAR, go Newman, preseason football (never thought I would say that), and Sportscenters top ten. CNN's world sport and Eurosport just don't compare to ESPN. O well.
Bis Nachher,
Jordan and Jen
Congrats on making a team! That is really cool! I hope you're able to spend the extra time with your coach - its sounds like it could pay off. I'm glad your foot/ankle held together. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, how's the driving in Germany? What are you driving?
Preseason football? Really?!?! j/k I'm just ready for the real stuff to begin!
Good luck with training and finding jobs. I miss you. I love you. Good bye.
Herr Fithian,
ReplyDeleteHallo von der schönen United States. Not sure if that is right but I know its close. Der might be das, but who's counting. So I searched the net for freshly printed Fithian ESV Viel jersey's and was extremely disapointed. Looking for the big 44 with a german touch, also tell that team they need to translate the website at least a little...its all Deutsche. Preseason football is pretty great, yesterday one of the games finished with a grown man smeer the runner, 13 lateral play full of guys that will never play, classic. Great to hear about the position, sounds like it could be a very positive relationship, possibly pick of on some german plus handball. As an onlooker here I think you are setting yourself up bigtime if you can pick up on the german language. When you are done playing you will be able to hitch on with Siemens or even better, Becks...
Couple questions,
popularity of indoor pets over there?
What about apple, are not they real into MAC and its applications?
how are you adjusting to the metric system?
are there any old-man recreational sports leagues or do they all just diet to stay slim?
again, happy to hear you are now a professional. Going to enjoy your thoughts on your personal progression as a player along with any game experiences....take care..
